Q349 : Modelling Flat Conductors (Strip)

Question
How can I model flat conductors instead of round shaped conductors.

Answer
The best way to model a flat, rectangular conductor is to use two conductors located at the edges of the strip. The conductors should have a radius equal to half the thickness of the strip and should be separated by a distance equal to the width of the strip. For almost all applications, this model of a flat strip will be as good as the real thing, the difference being less than 2%. If necessary, other conductors can be inserted between the two edge conductors, but this increases computation time and doesn't improve the accuracy of the results markedly.

Using SESCAD or the graphical tools of AutoGrid Pro, it would be easy to define such a conductor (possibly storing it in the Object Database) then scaling it, rotating it etc, as needed.
